The Red Centre and Northern Territory is een woestijngebied in Australië waar Uluru (Ayers Rock) ligt, een enorme, 348 meter hoge rotsformatie, midden op een vlakte. Het maakt deel uit van het Nationaal Park Uluru-Kata Tjuta en is een waar symbool van Australië. Niet voor niets is het een van de voornaamste bezienswaardigheden in het land.
U kunt er alle schakeringen van de kleur rood ontdekken, afhankelijk van het tijdstip van de dag. Vlakbij ligt Kata Tjuta (voorheen: The Olgas), schitterende, bizarre rotsformaties met rotsschilderingen in grotten, die door de Aboriginals gemaakt zijn. Ook vindt u er de fascinerende Valley of the Winds.
Een andere aanrader is een bezoek aan het Cultureel Centrum van de Aboriginals en het Kunstnijverheidscentrum Maruku. Alice Springs is een kleine stad, de ideale uitvalsbasis richting Uluru. Dan komt u langs de spectaculaire Kings Canyon, met indrukwekkende, 100 meter hoge rotswanden. Ook de moeite waard is het Edenpark.
Meer noordelijk en niet ver van Darwin ligt het Nationaal Park Kakadu, dat Werelderfgoed is. Hier vindt u dichte bossen, watervallen, lagunes en meren, waar duizenden diersoorten leven.
