Cienfuegos is de hoofdstad van de gelijknamige provincie die aan de zuidkust van Cuba ligt. Deze mooie stad wordt ook wel de ""Parel van het Zuiden"" genoemd. Het architectonische erfgoed bestaat voor een groot deel uit Neoklassieke gebouwen, met een belangrijke Franse invloed, wat de stad uniek maakt.
In elk hoekje van Cienfuegos is wel iets moois te zien: brede straten en wandelboulevards, parken en groene gebieden met oude gebouwen, doordrenkt van geschiedenis. De oude stadskern is zeer goed behouden en staat daarom op de UNESCO Werelderfgoedlijst.
In Cienfuegos vindt u veel schilderachtige plekken, waaronder de Botanische Tuin, die een nationaal monument is; de intrigerende Reina begraafplaats, befaamd om de Neoklassieke stijl; en het Fort Nuestra Señora de los Ángeles de Jagua, uit 1792.

Ooit ving Fidel Castro hier baarzen (Bohío 33 was de hut van El Commandante). Dit bijzondere complex ligt verspreid over 12 kleine eilanden in het meer Laguna del Tesoro en heeft 44 'bohíos' (hutten) met goede schermen en voldoende comfort, hoewel de muggen altijd aanwezig zijn. Het hoofdkwartier ligt op 15 minuten varen en is gebouwd op poten. Daarna volgt een kanotocht naar de gastencabines. De gasten moeten varen met de kano naar de hoofd-lodge voor maaltijden in het restaurant. Dit is een interessante bestemming, maar alleen voor gasten die baarzen willen vissen. Het van airconditioning voorziene hotel beschikt ook over een ontvangsthal, een hotelkluis, een wisselkantoor, een speelkamer, een televisielounge, een bar en parkeergelegenheid.
