Chihuahua is de hoofdstad van de gelijknamige Mexicaanse deelstaat en ligt in het noorden van het land. Het is een van de grootste steden van Mexico. In de stad en in de omgeving is een mooi natuurlijk landschap en er is ook een rijke cultuur te bewonderen. Aanraders zijn: de Chihuahua Nombre de Dios grotten, een wonderlijk natuurlijk landschap; en het Sierra Tarahumara gebergte, een groot gebied vol ravijnen en canyons, waarvan sommige een hoogte van meer dan 3000 meter hebben. In dit laatste gebergte ligt het Barranca del Cobre (Koperravijn), eveneens met een groot aantal canyons, waarvan de voornaamste zijn: Urique, Nonoava, Verde, Candameña, Basaseachic, Guazapares en Batopilas.
In de stad kunt u een keur aan historisch en architectonisch waardevolle gebouwen vinden, waaronder: de kapel van Santa Rita; de kathedraal van Chihuahua, uit 1727; de Sint Franciscus kerk en het heiligdom van Guadalupe; de kapel van Onze Lieve Vrouwe van Lourdes; het Regeringsgebouw; de populaire boulevard Paseo Bolívar en het indrukwekkende Raadhuis. Er zijn ook interessante musea. Een aanrader is een bezoek aan het Historisch Museum van de Revolutie en aan het Regionaal Staatsmuseum.
