    Amsterdam is best explored on foot as most of the essential sights are within walking distance. However, for those a little wary on their feet, an unlimited tram pass can be picked up for around 4€ as day, or 2€ for single journeys. Of course Amsterdam’s café culture is famed throughout Europe, but for a better experience, try and avoid the overly commercial and pricey cafes in the main squares of Leidseplein and Rembrandtplein. Instead head to somewhere sophisticated. The Grand Cafe has a fabulous terrace over the River Amstel (Wynand Fockink, Pijlsteeg 31). Alternatively try some traditional Dutch gin at Proeflokalen (tasting houses) left in the city. And to avoid the crowds, head to museums, including Anne Frank’s house either first thing for last night at night, otherwise be faced with spending most of your day in queues. Enjoy�
