Ankara is de hoofdstad van Turkije en de op een na grootste stad van het land na Istanboel.
De stad Ankara ligt in het oostelijke deel van de grote hoogvlakte van Anatolië. Ankara heeft enkele uitstekende universiteiten, en geniet faam dankzij de Nationale Bibliotheek, het Archeologisch Museum, het Volkenkundig Museum, de vesting, waarvandaan u schitterend uitzicht heeft op het oostelijke deel van de stad en dan is er natuurlijk nog de Arslanhane Camii (13e eeuw), de grootste moskee in Ankara.
Een van de voornaamste attracties in de stad is het Museum van Beschavingen van Anatolië, een gebouw uit de 15e eeuw dat de prijs voor het beste museum van Europa gewonnen heeft. In het museum vindt u collecties met vondsten uit het Paleolithicum en het Neolithicum. Het wordt beschouwd als een van de beste musea op het gebied van Oude Geschiedenis. Ook bezienswaardig is de moskee Kocatepe en het mausoleum van Ataturk (1956).
